Application Maps enable the user to consume the app’s topology, status, and recent changes. Each map displays a topology of your business application, including its entities (VM’s, etc.), entity dependencies, and application’s clients.

To view your application maps browse to Maps > Application Maps

View Application Topology

Click on the Map from the list, and its topology will be displayed to you.

The app topology is displayed according to discovered entities in the app and their dependencies.

Dependencies in the application map are represented by the connections between the entities and their respective color see Connection Color Legend

Map Display Mode

Application maps can be shown in different options: All, Current, Baseline, Compare.

Choose the relevant show mode in the dropdown next to the name

  • All - Displays the application map last update along with its changes from baseline

  • Current - Displays the last update of the application map

  • Baseline - Displays the application map baseline, which is what it looked like when you created/last saved the map, and will not show new/removed changes

  • Compare - View the Map in compare mode between the baseline and the current topology. This mode enables you to visually find deltas between the maps using the timeline view. along with timestamps

Viewing Options

When in the All view, you have two options for viewing Map or List

    • Map View - the

icon will be highlighted and you will see the application map in a graphical view as below

    • List View - the

icon is highlighted and shows, as a list, the top 500 connections for the application. The full list of connections is shown if you export the list.

    • List View Filters - You can also create filters in the list view to show you only the specific information you are looking for.

    • Customize View - Faddom allows you to customize your List Views so you only see the information that is relevant to you. This also comes with the added advantage of being able to view servers with events directly from the list, and even customize the columns you wish to include.

If a map has been updated you will see the blue dot next to it in the list, and if you see a red dot it means that there is an event on one or more servers within the map.

Updating A Map

Faddom allows you to add a filtered connection and clients to a map. This allows you to add-in ongoing connections that may otherwise not show on a per connection basis. To do this, right click on a node, select Show Incoming or Show Outgoing then right click on the connection you want to add and click Add to map

When you go to a map that has an update you will see a yellow banner across the map you have two option

  • Update Baseline - this will update the map show it shows the actual current state by removing connections that need to be removed and turning the purple connections to the current state as per the color chart.

  • Show Change Summary - this will provide a full list of the changes to the map and provide you the option to add/filter specific connections allowing you full control on the map updates

Map Events

Faddom allows you to easily see which servers on the map have an Event. In the top right, there is a red number which represents the number of events across all servers and by clicking it you will open the Events Panel. This lists all the events and associated servers.

Map Zones

The Zones feature of maps allows you to better group servers on a particular map without having to create an IP group. This enabled you to better order your maps and create a clear way to navigate your map. This in turn allows you to show at a glance which servers work together in a particular application and report internally to help track your business applications.

To create a zone, you can do the following

  1. Click on the Zones icon -

    - in the menu to enter Zones Mode

  2. Click anywhere on the map to create the zone

  3. Drag the servers you want to group together into the zone

  4. Right click > Edit Zone to change the name and color of the zone

  5. Click on the Zones icon in the menu below to exit Zones Mode

Editing the Map

You can edit the map in several ways by clicking on the edit button or right-clicking on the map name and selecting edit

From the Edit screen you can take the following options. As this works very similar to creating a new map, you can see the guide on New Application Maps

Map Tags

Faddom allows you to add Custom Tags to maps when creating a map or editing it. This can be used for things such as specifying owners and contact information, linking to documentation or anything else you may want to include. To create your tags, simply navigate to the create/edit map function and add these tags. You can view the added tags directly from the application map screen once added.
