Tier Types

A Tier is a group of servers or cloud services (PaaS) that are performing the same or similar functions. This allows a simple view of the map to understand your infrastructure, allowing you to clearly understand what is going on.

Servers are assigned to tiers based on global tier criteria. These criteria apply across maps. Within a specific Application Map, you can also manually assign servers to tiers as needed.

A tier can be configured using any combination of the available criteria.

Note: Filtering by subnet, asset name, and tag is only available from v2026.2 and above.

When more than one criterion is configured, an asset must match all configured criteria to be assigned to the tier. Criteria that should not affect the assignment can be set to Any.
Each criterion can also be used to include or exclude servers. For example, you can assign servers using port 80 to a tier, while excluding servers from subnet 10.0.0.0/8.

Tier criteria can also include priority. If a server matches the criteria for more than one tier, Faddom assigns the server to the tier with the highest priority.
PaaS entities can also be assigned to tiers using a dedicated rule set.

To see all your tiers, go to Inventory > Tier Types. When clicking a Tier grouping, the server type list screen opens and shows the list of all servers participating in this group, based on the criteria configured for the tier.

Any server that is not specifically part of a Tier will be shown in the Other grouping.

There are two ways to create and edit tiers. This can be done for all Application Maps or on a per-map basis.

A Global Tier is applied to all maps and can be edited from the Inventory screen. This allows you granular control of what your tiers represent. To create a Tier, navigate to Inventory > Tier Types and select + Add Tier.

To edit a Tier, you click on the pencil icon. You will then be shown the same screen for both. When editing the tier, you will see the name, color, icon, ports, subnet, server name and tag, which can all be customized. You can also create tiers for cloud services, configuring them by service type, name, and tag. Additionally, when on the Inventory > Tier Types screen, you can select one or more servers and either remove them from the tier or select Move To to place the selected servers in a new tier.

Application Map Tiers

From an Application Map, you can amend the tiers for the specific map you are looking at. To do this, you select the map, then right-click on a Tier and select Edit Tiers. From here, you can drag and drop servers that are on the specific map between the tiers, or create a new Tier. From here, you have two options -
