Application Maps Overview

Application Maps enable the user to consume the app’s topology, status, and recent changes. Each map displays a topology of your business application, including its entities (VM’s, etc.), entity dependencies, and application’s clients.

To view your application maps browse to Maps > Application Maps

View Application Topology

Click on the Map from the list, and its topology will be displayed to you.

The app topology is displayed according to discovered entities in the app and their dependencies.

Dependencies in the application map are represented by the connections between the entities and their respective color see Connection Color Legend

Map Display Mode

Application maps can be shown in different options: All, Current, Baseline, Compare.

Choose the relevant show mode in the dropdown next to the name

  • All - Displays the application map last update along with its changes from baseline

  • Current - Displays the last update of the application map

  • Baseline - Displays the application map baseline, which is what it looked like when you created/last saved the map, and will not show new/removed changes

  • Compare - View the Map in compare mode between the baseline and the current topology. This mode enables you to visually find deltas between the maps using the timeline view. along with timestamps

Viewing Options

When in the All view, you have two options for viewing Map or List

    • Map View - the

      icon will be highlighted and you will see the application map in a graphical view as below

    • List View - the

      icon is highlighted and shows, as a list, the top 500 connections for the application. The full list of connections is shown if you export the list.

    • List View Filters - You can also create filters in the list view to show you only the specific information you are looking for.

Map Events

If a map has been updated you will see the blue dot next to it in the list, and if you see a red dot it means that there is an event on one or more servers within the map.

When you go to a map that has an update you will see a yellow banner across the map you have two option

  • Update Baseline - this will update the map show it shows the actual current state by removing connections that need to be removed and turning the purple connections to the current state as per the color chart.

  • Show Change Summary - this will provide a fully list of the changes to the map

Map Zones

The Zones feature of maps allows you to better group servers on a particular map without having to create an IP group. This enabled you to better order your maps and create a clear way to navigate your map. This in turn allows you to show at a glance which servers work together in a particular application and report internally to help track your business applications.

To create a zone, you can do the following

  1. Click on the Zones icon -

    - in the menu to enter Zones Mode

  2. Click anywhere on the map to create the zone

  3. Drag the servers you want to group together into the zone

  4. Right click > Edit Zone to change the name and color of the zone

  5. Click on the Zones icon in the menu below to exit Zones Mode

Editing the Map

You can edit the map in several ways by clicking on the edit button or right-clicking on the map name and selecting edit

From the Edit screen you can take the following options. As this works very similar to creating a new map, you can see the guide on New Application Maps

Map Options

Where ever you see the

icon means you can export the screen. You can export to CSV. XLS, Image, Visio or VRNI depending on the screen you wish to export.

At the bottom of the map, there are various actions that can be taken,

  • or

    - Expand or Collapse the menu

  • Zoom in/out

  • Fit on Screen - if you have zoomed in/out or moved the screen around this will recenter the screen

  • Area Selection - allows you to select multiple servers on the map to group/move them together

  • Zone mode - enter the Zones mode to create/edit zones on the map

  • Horizontal Layout - provides a left-to-right view of the application map. This is the default view.

  • Vertical Layout - provide a top-down view of the application map

  • Load saved layout if you have customised the layout and moved things around, this will reload the custom layout you have saved

  • Map Settings allows you to choose up to five fields to display per server/connection on the map
