Faddom allows you to simulate and plan a migration project regardless of your environment. This enables you to fully understand what servers/services you need to migrate in order to provide a seamless transition.

For cloud-to-cloud or on-prem to cloud assessments, we can use this to provide you with an accurate cost of moving all or part of your infrastructure to AWS, Azure, or GCP giving you a complete picture before the migration.

Once you have your waves created, you can go back to the main migrate dashboard where you will see a list of your waves. Additionally, you will see a map showing the geographic spread of your chosen cloud regions. As part of this list, you can also set a Status per wave.

Create a Migration Wave

  1. To start the assessment select Migrate from the left sidebar menu

  2. Here, you will either see an Overview of your environment or any previously created waves. This allows you to perform a quick assesment of your entire environment by choosing the source and target environments. in the case of a cloud migration, you can also select the region and pricing method

  3. To create a wave select Create New Wave

  4. Provide a name and select the Migration Target and region if a cloud target then select Next to select members which can be one or more of the following in any combination

    • Application - Application map according to Faddom's application maps

    • Subnet - Include all resources in a specific subnet

    • Server - Include specific servers in the migration wave
If a member is already part of a wave you will be asked if you are sure you wish to move it

  5. Click on Next to findings

Migration Wave Components

  • Members

Contains the inventory of resources to migrate

  • Dependencies
Members dependencies to applicative or infrastructure services

  • Pricing
    Pricing estimation for selected members

Findings

On this screen you will be taken to the Estimated Cost dashboard and you will see the Target and region, and number of Members.

  • Target and region - you can click on this to change the Migration Target

  • Members - click on this to add and remove members and to see the dependencies,

  • Estimated Cost - clicking this will take you back to the main Wave dashboard.

You will see graphs comparing the costs of the different clouds based on On-Demand pricing to give ensure you can make an informed choice. Underneath this, you will see a breakdown by server of the cost and type you will need in the cloud, and you can explore all payment options

Dependencies

  • Dependent Servers - services provided by migrating servers that depend on non-migrated servers.

  • Dependencies - non-migrated services required by the migrating servers.

  • Infrastructure Dependencies - Infrastructure services required by servers in the wave. Usually these are the firewall/security rules needed to ensure a seamless transition.

Wave Status

Yoi can select a pre-built status so you can better plan the assessment and migration. In addition to the prebuilt statuses, you can type in a status per-wave.
