Faddom generates Notifications and Events for application map-related events as well as administrative events. The notifications can be viewed on the Notifications screen.
Notifications
The Notifications screen is a log of events, showing all historic events. You can access this by clicking on the bell icon in the top right. If there are new events, it will display a number to indicate the amount of events.
At the bottom, you have a breakdown that shows you the amount of events based on different criteria.
Events
Events advise you of changes or events that have happened recently and that you need attention. Once you have attended an event it will disappear from this screen and will show in the Notifications screen.
It is possible to select all the Events and clear them all at once should you wish to do so.
To configure notifications of Events, you must first define the notification channels to specify the targets and then create the various notification subscriptions.
Notifications Channels
Types of notification channels are:
Email for sending email events per Faddom notification
Webhooksfor pushing events to any system you use that supports webhooks
SNMP for sending SNMP traps per Faddom notification
ServiceNowfor pushing event and creating Incidents
SysLogs for pushing events to a SysLog server
View Notifications Channels:
Browse to Settings->Notifications->Edit Notifications
Each row in the Notification Channels window represents a different notification channel
Channel details:
Channel name – channel’s name
Channel type – Specifies the type of channel (SNMP/EMAIL)
Server – SNMP / Email server name/address
Port – Specifies the port for the notification channel
Create a Notification Channel
Click on Edit Channels or New Subscription
From New Subscription click Add New Channel
Select the channel type and provide the required details
Email Channel
You can send email notifications in two ways. By default, the Local channel uses Faddom as the mail server (Postfix)—just enter recipient emails and a sender address. To use your domain (e.g., faddom@yourcompany.com), ensure DMARC permissions. Faddom blocks other systems from using it as an SNMP server.
This feature is only available for new installs (2024.3+) on Linux via cloud marketplace or OVA. Windows users or upgrades from 2024.2 must migrate to the new OVA/markeplace or use their internal SNMP server.
To setup email notifications via your own SMTP server, you select the Remote option then enter the required credentials
Webhooks Channel:
It is possible to push Faddom to any service or system that supports webhooks, with a custom message. See How to Push Notifications via Webhooks
SNMP Channel
Choose the SNMP server and port you are using.
ServiceNow Channel
It is possible to push Faddom alerts to your ServiceNow instance. This will create an incident in ServiceNow with full details of the alert. See ServiceNow Integration for CMDB and Incident Creation
Syslog Channel
You can push Faddom alerts directly to your Syslog server. To set this up select the Syslog type and enter the required details.
How to Disable the Local Email Server
If you need to disable the inbuilt SNMP server for security reasons, you can do this using the commands below.
sudo systemctl stop postfix
sudo systemctl disable postfix
